You will need your debit card.

smsGuardian is a text alert service that will alert you to transactions being conducted using your Select Bank & Trust VISA® debit card via alerts to your mobile phone.

Here's how the system works. Once enrolled, you will receive a text message each time your debit card is used for:

  • International or out-of-state check card transactions
  • Purchase authorizations greater than $300.00
  • Five or more transactions within a 24-hour period
  • Card purchases where the card is not present
  • Fuel transactions at an automated fuel pump

In the event you are alerted to a transaction that you did not make, simply reply to the text message as directed within 12 hours to report fraud to smsGuardian. A fraud case will be opened, and you will receive a text advising that your debit card has been blocked from further use.

The service is FREE. You can enroll any of your Select Bank & Trust cards in their service.

Here's How It Works

When a purchase that meets the monitoring criteria defined by Select Bank & Trust is made with your debit card, a text will be sent to you for your review.

Example:

Jun 29, 2015 4:50 pm

SELBT Guardian Alert card 1234 for Fuel at GASpro for $43.10- Reply BB1234NO if unauthorized. Reply STOP to cancel alerts.

SELBT: This will let you know this is from Select Bank

1234: The number is the last four digits of your card number

GASpro: The name of the merchant will be listed

$43.10: The purchase amount will be listed.

If you think a particular transaction is fraudulent, reply immediately with the code you are presented in the text. A smsGuardian fraud analyst will block the card immediately and a new card will be issued as quickly as possible. If the transaction is one you made, simply do nothing. You can choose to cancel this FREE service at any time by replying to a message "STOP."

Is there a service fee for using smsGuardian?

No. At Select Bank & Trust smsGuardian is provided free of charge.*

How long is the enrollment?

Unless you unsubscribe, your enrollment for smsGuardian is 12 months.

Will I receive a renewal notification?

A renewal notification will be sent to each device you have enrolled in the service six days prior to the yearly expiration date. Three renewal attempts will be made before the service is set to expire. If you do not respond, the device is removed from smsGuardian at expiration.

What type of transactions has Select Bank & Trust determined I will receive an alert for?

  • International or out-of-state debit card transactions
  • Purchase authorizations greater than $300.00
  • Five or more transactions within a 24-hour period
  • Card purchases where the card is not present
  • Fuel transactions at an automated fuel pump

While many of these transactions might be legitimate (and the alerts can be ignored), this kind of activity is most frequently reported as fraud. The number of alerts you receive will be based on card usage. Cardholders will not receive more than one message per transaction on each enrolled card.

Are there security features in place to protect cardholder information?

What happens if I don't reply to a text?

If no confirmed response is received within 12 hours, the text message expires and smsGuardian considers the transaction valid. You need to respond to a text only if you did not make the transaction in question.

What will the text message look like? How will I know it's from Select Bank & Trust?

The beginning of the text message will feature the initials "SELBT" for Select Bank & Trust. These initials are also known as the bank's short name. The message will also include the last 4 digits of the card used, along with the dollar amount of the transaction. You need to respond only if you DID NOT make the transaction. Reply exactly as directed. A fraud reply will BLOCK your card from further use and require that you contact the bank to obtain a new card and complete a written dispute form.

You may discontinue the receipt of Alerts immediately by texting the word STOP in reply to a Guardian Alert. You may unsubscribe on the website. Cardholders can also discontinue alerts by texting the word STOP to 27576.
